Diogo Lopes de Sequeira

Portuguese sea captain Diogo Lopes de Sequeira (1465–1530) served as Captain-major of the Portuguese Gold Coast (1503–1506) and led the first Portuguese expedition to Malacca in August 1509. He was subsequently appointed governor of Portuguese India (1518–1522), and in 1520 led a military campaign into the Red Sea, which resulted in the first legitimate Portuguese embassy to Ethiopia.
