Lazy Bill Lucas

Lazy Bill Lucas

Bill Lucas’ first instrument was a guitar, financed by selling a pig, but he really wanted a piano. Living on a farm with five siblings it seemed like a dream when his father actually bought him one in 1932. However, when the family moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the piano was left behind. Lazy Bill had no real contact with the blues until he met Big Joe Williams in St. Louis in 1940. Converted, he moved to Chicago in 1941 and turned back to the piano after playing guitar in support of many of the famous artists of the day. (AllMusic)  Interesting, but Obscure. File under:
