The Spiders were originally a late-forties-early fifties gospel group known as Zion City Harmonisers or the Delta Southernaires (depending on whether they were live or on the radio). The group segued into a secular, rock-flavoured R&B vocal outfit. Comprised of brothers Chuck and Chick Carbo, Joe Maxson, Matthew West, and Oliver Howard The Spiders charted several Dave Robinson-produced hits in the mid-fifties, including "I Didn't Want To Do It," "You're The One," and "For A Thrill." The Carbo siblings split after a few years for solo careers. (Rick Koster, Louisiana Music p. 118)
