Linda Lyndell

Linda Lyndell

Gainesville-born blue-eyed Southern soul diva Linda Lyndell  attended both white and black churches as a child, andt by her teens she was singing with local R&B acts. After opening for the likes of James Brown and Ike & Tina Turner, she met Otis Redding, who recommended her to Isaac Hayes and David Porte at Stax Records. Two singles followed, but  the increased visibility called attention to a white woman singing black music. Threats from the Ku Klux Klan prompted her to retire from performing and return to Gainesville. Interesting. File under: Blue-Eyed Soul Divas (Prematurely Retired)
