Formed in 1965, the the Three City Four was a kind of super-group in folk terms, what with Martin Carthy (guitar) and Leon Rosselson (vocals, guitar) in their line-up; the other two members were Marian MacKenzie (vocals) and Ralph Trainer (guitar). Conceived as a vehicle for performing contemporary songs written in a folk vein, by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Cyril Tawney et al, their original songs were provided by Rosselson, and the group's appearances and recordings tended toward the political, including involvement in the early '60s anti-nuclear movement.
