Peter Rowan

Peter RowanBoston-born Peter Rowan first came under notice (if that's the right word for a vague recollection of a name in a lineup) in the Elektra-signed Earth Opera and, subsequently, Seatrain after a 1965-66 stint in Nashville as  guitarist and lead vocalist with Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. Earth Opera included mandolin layer David Grisman, Seatrain had Richard Greene on violin (and a great cover of Lowell George's Willin'). Rowan worked with both (and Clarence White) in a bluegrass outfit called Muleskinner before moving on to Old and in the Way with Jerry Garcia.

And that only takes the story to 1974. The proverbial extensive discography includes collaborations with his brothers, Tony Rice and Flaco Jiminez, along with a plethora of solo, sideman and collaborative projects with, among others, the Free Mexican Airforce.
