Trans-Australia Airlines purchased Brampton Island Pty Ltd, which became a subsidiary of Australian Resorts Pty Ltd. Looking to expand its tourist interests and to provide package tours TAA had, , embarked upon a policy of buying into various island resorts along the Queensland coast during the 1970s and 1980s. TAA subsequently sold it to P&O Resorts in late 1997.
