Francis Amhurst elected Member for Bowen. Served 1875–1877

James Mulligan explores sections of the Atherton Tablelands. 

Bowen jetty found to be worm-ridden. 

Bowen River Coal Association had R. Logan Jack commissioned to survey coal deposits at Pelican Creek. 

Cardwell jetty completed, but, use was limited to high tides, due to the extensive shallows in Rockingham bay.

Charters Towers primary school opened.

Cooktown primary school opened.

The Telegraph Hotel was the first permanent building on the site of Ingham. It was replaced by the double-storey Day Dawn Hotel in 1885 and Lee's Hotel in 1960. 

Rust epidemic nearly destroys Mackay's fledging sugar industry. John Henry Fitzgerald is forced into bankruptcy.
