21 Brampton island airstrip officially opened by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Senator Denham Henty. To accommodate this strip and associated facilities, which included a substantial reclamation of the sea-front, a special lease was given to the Australian National Airlines Commission for twenty years from 1 January 1965. Brampton was serviced by TAA aircraft including De Havilland Twin Otters. It was a rather short airstrip and several aircraft came to grief there, though no one was killed in any of the accidents.

1 Barrier Reef Islands was granted a special lease to build a helicopter landing site adjacent to the end of the Hayman Island jetty.

May 

17 Electricity Supply turned on at Carmila.

July 

Government-financed abattoirs opened at Bakers Creek. When local livestock supplies could not provide an economic throughput the abattoirs was sold to Borthwicks in 1967.
