Dunk Island was chosen as the location for the film Age of Consent, based on a story by Norman Lindsay, directed by Michael Powell, starring James Mason as a jaded Australian artist returning from New York and Helen Mirren as a local teenager.

Croydon Railway Station destroyed by a cyclone. Parts of the building were used to construct a temporary station but it also collapsed from storm and termite damage in 2003.
