A Qantas Dragon Rapide on a mail run was destroyed by fire at Canobie in 1948. The plane landed at the property on schedule but when it was restarted for take-off an engine burst into flames, which soon engulfed the aircraft.

Postwar, modernist court house in Palm Terrace, Ingham opened. The building is listed on the Queensland heritage register.

February

Leases for Hayman and Daydream Islands sold to the Ansett subsidiary, Barrier Reef Islands Pty Ltd. Ansett was also interested also in Lindeman Island, but the owners of the resort did not agree.  Ansett applied for a lease over Goldsmith Island (including Farrier Island) and Henning Island but these were refused.

March Barrier Reef Islands took over management of Hayman and Daydream Islands and began a refurbishment of Hayman Island aimed at the wealthier client in anticipation of a visit by King George V1, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret in April 1949. The King's illness caused the trip to be cancelled though permission was given for the island to use the prefix 'Royal' and for many years it was known as Royal Hayman.
