Cairns' municipal status was raised to a city.

Tully was approved as a central-mill site.

New machinery was installed at Farleigh mill to help cope with increased cane supplies following the closure of Homebush mill the previous year.

Australian sugar price dropped to £27 a ton and Farleigh Mill's situation worsened due to problems with mineralised water affecting the boilers, diminished crushing rates and disrupting locomotive schedules.  The problems of crushing harder varieties of cane grown in the area added to the company's woes.

2 E.J. Banfield dies. His widow remained on the island for another year before moving to Brisbane where she died, ten years after her husband.
