Area north of Mackay formerly known as Seaview was renamed Bucasia in remembrance of Father Bucas and to avoid confusion with other locations named Seaview.

Jetty was built at Cannonvale for cruises to the Whitsunday Islands.

Shark-catcher and author, Norman Caldwell lived on Hayman Island after previously living for a while on Grassy Island. 

The art deco Johnstone Shire Hall opened in Innisfail, replacing a structure destroyed in 1936. It is the foremost example of several art deco buildings, including the hospital, masonic centre, water tower and the Queens Hotel.

The Range Road (Kennedy Highway) from Cairns to Kuranda was opened.
