Thomas Henry Fitzgerald elected as Member for Kennedy, serving 19 July 1867 – 11 June 1869

Thomas Aitken arrives in Townsville in 1867 and takes up 3500 acres on Ross Island (South Townsville and Railway Estate). 

Clermont primary school opened, and the town becomes a local-governing municipality.

The barque Captain Cook arrived in Burketown with machinery for another boiling down works being erected by J. G. MacDonald. A paddle steamer, the Pioneer ran between Burketown and Sweers Island.

Normanton was founded and later prospered through gold mining and the establishment of a railway line. 

Ernest Henry discovered copper in the Cloncurry region.

13 First South Sea Islanders arrive aboard the ship "Prima Donna". 70 arrive to start work as indentured labourers on plantations around Mackay.

June

John Spiller operates first sugar Mill in the district a small wooden mill operated by horses.
