Thomas Aitken puts up for sale subdivided land south overlooking the Ross River, which he names Aitkenvale. 

Airdmillan plantation established the first of several crushing mills in the lower Burdekin district. Henry Brandon, formerly associated with the Pioneer sugar plantation in Mackay acquires land west of Sheep Station Creek and sets about installing a sugar mill, named Pioneer. 

Post Office was opened in Ayr followed by Police Station and Court House.

Armidale pastoral run taken up by John Lambert, extending from Bluewater Creek to Ollera Creek.

James Venture Mulligan was commissioned by John Moffat, the Herberton mining entrepreneur, on another investigation around Chillagoe, and found showings of copper at a time when world copper prices were high. 

Pyramid plantation established the Mulgrave district's first sugar mill but it only survived for two crushing seasons. 

Carpentaria Division was created from part of Doonmunya Division. The rest went into Burke Division two years later.

Habana crushing mill on La Habana sugar plantation established by E.M. Long and W. Robertson commenced operations.

Shire hall erected in Ingham.

Victoria Sugar Mill commenced operating near Ingham.

Kalamia Mill opened.

Wild River Times commences publication.

Discoveries of tin lodes on the headwaters of the Eureka Creek, and silver and tin lodes along Gibbs Creek, respectively to the north and west of Irvinebank. 

CSR opened atram  line at Homebush, south-west of Mackay.
