Bowen jetty rebuilt and kept accessible by dredging. 

A meatworks was opened on Poole Island, but failed within a few years. 

A railway line to the Bowen coalfield was promised, but Bowen's railway fund was dissipated on a coastal line between Townsville and Ayr.

Woolgar goldfield north of Richmond was a significant producer of gold through the 1880s.
