16 Cyclone "Connie" crosses the Queensland coast causing more flooding in the Pioneer River. The Forgan bridge damaged due to undermining of one pylon in floods the year before. The dip in the bridge is still noticeable today.

1 Railway line from Newbury Junction to Eton closed due to declining patronage.

Joseph Busuttin's sons sold Brampton Island to Carapark Motels Ltd, who asked them to stay on under a five year sub-lease of their dwelling and its grounds. After the takeover executives from the company inspected the island, travelling from Mackay in one of Roylen Cruises' boats skippered by the owner of Roylen, Tom McLean. As a result of the inspection Mthey decided they did not wish to retain an island resort  but the visit engendered an interest in the resort by Tom McLean.
