Gold found at Charters Towers.

Catholic chapel opened in Charters Towers and the Charters Towers Miner (later the Northern Miner) was first published. 

William and Frank Hann were commissioned by the Queensland Government to explore the interior of the Cape York Peninsula with the possibility of finding gold north of the Etheridge fields. They found traces of gold on the Palmer River. 

The Venus Battery on Millchester Road commences operations.

A separate Copperfield municipality created. 

Etheridge was renamed Georgetown in honour of the local gold commissioner. 

Post office a court house opened in Georgetown. 

Camping reserve for travellers on the Charters Towers Road established on a bend on the Ross River. 

Copper ore discovered at Mount Flora south west of Nebo.
