Half an hour by train from downtown Sendai, the two hundred and sixty pine clad islets in Matsushima Bay (islands = shima, pines = matsu) are ranked as one of the Three Views of Japan. There are other ways to view the scenery apart from the predictable, but very impressive, cruise options and significant temples that are worth a close look if we're ever back that way.
