Day Ten: Hobart

Daci & Daci.jpgSleeping in doesn't help with the Travelogue backlog, but doesn't it feel good!

Having rolled back into Fountainside a good three and a half hours after the preferred bed time I was never likely to be up at sparrow fart trying to catch up. As it was, I took my time, and in the end it was hunger rather than anything else that prompted a move.

Madam’s research had pointed us towards a couple of cafes, which seem to be a definite Hobart trademark, and we could have opted for a differently highly-rated brunch venue for at least a week.

We took a stroll through the city before brunch, passing the familiar seafood operations and Constitution Dock en route to Daci & Daci for a leisurely, and fashionably late breakfast. You can get a fair idea of the place from the images in this YouTube video, though the spoken soundtrack tends towards the standard touristy PR speak. Still, you don’t eat with your ears and the eyes will probably have the peckish viewer looking to sample some of the morsels on display.

IMG 9147.jpgWith thirty tables, you might expect it’ll be easy to get a seat, but there weren’t a whole lot available when we turned up on the doorstep on a Wednesday, and I definitely wouldn’t fancy my chances on a Saturday morning. The Salamanca Markets are just over on the other side of the Parliament House lawns, and while that would make a nice venue for a bit of takeaway action that option rules out feasting your eyes at length on the contents of the display cabinets.

It’s the sort of view that probably won’t do your waistline any favours.
