Back in the car we headed on to Huonville, where we refuelled before taking a detour to Home Hill Wines, where I'd thought of eating if we were looking for a lunch venue the following day. Predictably, things didn’t work out that way, but Madam headed off to take photos of alpacas while I had a go at the Sylvaner, Chardonnay, Pinot Rose and a brace of Pinot Noirs, all of which would have done me very nicely for dinner. Given the need to get the first three chilled before serving I played it safe and opted for the red label Estate 2011 Pinot Noir ($35) rather than the $50 Reserve.
Back in the car for the run down the west bank of the Huon, with the water just where I like it for maximum enjoyment of the views. By this point, it was a case of letting things wash over you rather than letting out the occasional Wow! That took us through Franklin, then on to Castle Forbes Bay, and Port Huon before the road turned inland towards Geeveston.
