The clothes line may have been on the eastern, seaward side of the overnight accommodation, but a location on the wrong side of a hill meant it didn’t get too much morning sun, which meant a lengthy session on the ironing board before we departed, and an array of clothing scattered across The Blue Bug’s back seat.

Fortunately there wasn’t anyone standing around tapping a watch as the nominal checkout time arrived and then receded into the distance.

We didn’t have that far to go, and weren’t in a hurry to start, so the aftermath of doing the laundry wasn’t going to create a problem.

We were pulling out of the car park around half past ten, heading south through rather familiar territory, third time around. Woodridge could have been a first stop, but we had other plans for lunch, so Peppermint Bay restaurant’s views across to Bruny Island and local seafood weren’t going to tempt us.

They do, however, have a cruise that operates out of Hobart and runs down the d’Entrecasteaux Channel, so we may well get there next time we’re in the neighbourhood.

We’d already visited the Grandvewe Sheep Cheesery, and I’d pencilled in a stop at Fleurty’s herb garden to pick up some mountain pepper products but neglected to note they only open Thursday to Sunday.

Once we were past Woodbridge we were onto new ground as we followed the Channel Highway through Middleton and Gordon, enjoying the succession of great views across the water to Bruny Island. We'd always rated the drive from Rosevears north along the west bank of the Tamar as hard to beat for sheer Wow factor but here, yet again, we had a succession, or rather a continuous run of waterside views that were quite superb.
