And So, To Bed

Inquiries about dinner options pointed us towards a number of possibilities, but there was never any doubt we'd be opting for the Oyster Bay Seafood Company. That's basically a fish and chip shop, though there are a number of other items on the menu, including a chowder that came with an impressive reputation.

What was more significant, as far as Hughesy was concerned, was a bottle of Riesling, and our hostess pointed us towards the Tavern, where the actual options were limited and the offering based around The Usual Suspects.

Before anyone goes and starts accusing me of snobbery, the matter of alcoholic indulgence raises a number of significant issues where Hughesy is concerned. Yes, I like a drink. Yes, I tend to drink a lot. But I don't want to drink just for the sake of drinking, and I want to drink something interesting. I wasn't sure about anything I could see in the cold room as far as wine was concerned, and ended up grabbing a couple of beers I hadn't tried before.

In the meantime,  we'd headed out to Kate's which was pretty good in the views department, attracted a steady flow of passing traffic but didn't offer much for Madam and even less for Hughesy.

I'm not a fruit eater, don't deal with jam unless it's of the musical variety, and could only rouse enough enthusiasm to go for an ice cream to last me till dinner time. Back at Freycinet Waters there was another go at the Travelogue before we took a stroll down to the fish shop, where things took a definite turn for the better. Half a dozen oysters natural were bordering on the divine, my trevalla and chips were excellent, and Madam's chowder not quite to die for, but situated in a nearby postcode.

We were out the door full of intentions to return for lunch tomorrow, though things didn't quite pan out that way. It was an early night all round after I'd demolished the Cascade Bright Ale and Boags Blonde that had been waiting in the fridge back at base camp.
