Russian-born physicist George Gamow (1904 – 1968) was professor of physics at his alma mater, Leningrad University (1931 – 34). and worked at Gottingen, Copenhagen and Cambridge en route to the USA, where he was professor of physics at George Washington University (1934 – 1955) and at Colorado (1956 – 1968).
