Tahbilk

Wednesday, 6 February 2008

We were on our way to Rutherglen when we headed off the main highway and headed for Tahbilk, home of the Marsanne that’s consistently proved to be a long-term favourite and consistently turns up in Halliday’s Hundred in the Weekend Australian each November - remarkable value at the price.

As we drove in we passed through extensive vineyards. Maybe the actual winery is located further than usual from the main road, or maybe the vines we were passing belonged to other growers, but it seemed that we were headed for a much larger operation than I’d envisaged.

Having tasted our way through the various wines on offer at the cellar door, when I was told of the Wine Club (no obligation, freight free to our part of the country) I signed up, anticipating picking up the odd dozen from time to time. I do something similar whenever I find a winery I like with a similar arrangement.
