Given the fact that the 2005 7CD Atlantic retrospective Pure Genius: The Complete Atlantic Recordings (1952–1959) is probably all the Ray Charles I’m going to need in the foreseeable future The Critical Reader might question the need for a cut, paste and reformat of the Wikipedia Ray Charles discography.
And fair enough. Given the size of that compilation, and the length of time it’s likely to take to come to grips with the contents there’s every chance Pure Genius will do me.
On the other hands, the process of coming to terms with the contents will undoubtedly involve a look at the track listings of those Atlantic albums and, in any case, you never know where those investigations are likely to lead, do you?
