Fermoy Estate

Fermoy Estate

High quality affordable wines. Fantastic value for money.

2008 Estate Semillon (4.5* $22) Nicely lemony little number with great mouth feel.

2009 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (4* $20) Regulation regional nose that goes with the blend. Impressive style with a long finish.

2009 Sauvignon Blanc (4* $22) Impressive, and prompted the usual remarks and shaking of the head over the Kiwi Savalanche. I know they do it well over there, but there are a number of Australian operations that produce something in the same ball park.

2007 Estate Chardonnay (4.5* $22) Understated refined style I really liked

2009 Geographe Chardonnay (4* $16) Impressive summery unwooded quaffer that could well be a reorder candidate. We shall see.

2008 Naturaliste Shiraz (4* but outstanding lighter style value for money at $72/case). Thank heaven for cancelled export orders. Needless to say I weakened.

2009 Geographe Shiraz (4* $16) Another one in the lighter mode, which I thought was value for money.

2008 Fermoy Shiraz (4.5* $22) Rounded fresh style that ran over the palate very nicely indeed. Another one to remember.

2007 Nebbiolo (4.5* $30) Classy balancing act in the lighter style with varietal style and savoury tannins.

2008 Merlot (4.5* $30) Medium-bodied fragrant complex style that's very much the way Merlot should be but often isn't.

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot (4* $20) A bit young but had things in place to improve with age.

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (4* $30) Also, I thought, on the young side, and I note Mr Halliday rated it a 94 with a drink to 2023. One to give some time if I can generate some space in the wine fridge.

I have a feeling I’ll be ordering repeatedly to sample a range I thought offered consistently high value for money. May go elsewhere first, but will definitely be back.
