Hay Shed Hill
Up and coming winery with a rather good cafe deli on the premises. Recommended for lunch.
2009 Pitchfork Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (3.5* $17) Solid without demanding attention.
2009 Pitchfork Pink (4* $17) Rose style on special at $10 by the case, ideal summer drinking and there's a dozen sitting in the wine rack as I type.
2009 Hay Shed Hill Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (4* $20) Fresh clean tropical fruit. Regional standard blend, so you'd be looking at 4.5 before ordering (specials excepted, of course).
2009 Hay Shed Hill Chardonnay (4* $25) Light and peachy-fresh. Consider.
2009 Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Merlot (4* $20) Easy drinking medium-bodied style drinking.
2008 Hay Shed Hill Shiraz Tempranillo (4* $20) Interesting blend of spices and savoury characters. Could consider.
2008 Hay Shed Hill Cabernet Sauvignon (5* $25) Classy line that comes out of the glass right into the nose and came through very nicely rounded on the palate. My favourite from here.
2009 Hay Shed Hill Botrytis Riesling (5* $22/$29) Sublime.
2008 World Series Wines Tempranillo (3.5* $30) Varietal nose. I preferred the Sangiovese.
2008 World Series Wines Sangiovese (4* $30) Very pleasant savoury style.
2009 Hay Shed Hill Block 6 Chardonnay (4.5* $35) Highly perfumed new style Oz style.
2008 Hay Shed Hill Block 8 Cabernet Franc (4* $35) Varietal character to burn in a medium-bodied style.
2005 Hay Shed Hill Block 10 Petit Verdot (4.5* $35) Excellent style. Dry with depth .
2008 Hay Shed Hill Block 2 Cabernet Sauvignon (4.5* $50) was quite outstanding with fine tannins (95 from Halliday).
Overall, while I escaped from the winery with credit cad dockets for dozens of the Pitchfork Pink and a cleanskin 2008 Merlot that was quite acceptable drinking @ $8 I don't know that there'll be a great deal of ordering action headed back towards Hay Shed Hill, largely due to an inclination towards a couple of other places and limited space.
