Joseph O'Neill
Irish-born of Irish and Turkish extraction, Joseph O'Neill lived in Mozambique, Turkey and Iran before attending boarding school at The Hague and studying law at Cambridge. After a spell as a poet O'Neill became a barrister specialising in business law, producing two novels along the way before relocating to New York in 1998. He’s now, apparently, a literary and cultural critic, writing for the Atlantic Monthly. There’s also a non-fiction title, Blood-Dark Track: A Family History.

Netherland, a rambling, pleasantly-uncertain story based around expatriate park cricketers in New York. If O'Neill's other stuff is this good he's worth investigating.
