British-born of Kashmiri origin, Hari Kunzru worked as a journalist and TV presenter before his first novel drew a £1 million advance. Reading through what's out there on the 'Net, he comes across as a twenty-first century equivalent of some of the activists in My Revolutions. For instance he turned down the second oldest literary prize in the UK because it was backed by the Mail on Sunday whose hostility towards black and Asian people was unacceptable and asked that the award money be donated to the charity Refugee Council.
