Washington never sought out the recording studio himself; he preferred music in the live environment. Hor years he was the embodiment of working-class New Orleans piano player who held down a lucrative gig at the Bayou Room in the Pontchartrain Hotel. In 1983, when he was seventy-six, he recorded the delightful New Orleans Piano Professor album for Rounder. It's a tantalising record and makes one wonder what sort of legacy Washington might have left had he not been averse to the studio, (Rick Koster, Louisiana Music p. 92) Outstanding.
