It's been fourteen years between albums, and Keith Reid no longer supplies the lyrics, but Gary Brooker's vocals remain as distinctive as they were fifty years ago.
Hughesy's assessment: If there's nothing here that makes you stop what you're doing and listen the way A Whiter Shade of Pale did back in the day that's hardly surprising. Over half a century I've heard a lot of new music, and very little of it has had the same impact.
And while there's nothing here to match the other, largely forgotten heights of one of the most underrated outfits that emerged from the late sixties it's a timely reminder of how good Brooker and company were at the peak of their powers. Every one of those early albums has a gem or three and he hasn't slipped that much. Interesting.
