The new Neil Young, they called him here in an assessment that suggests a writer who’s not that familiar with the width of the Canadian’s oeuvre. Still, there’s more than a trace of Harvest era Young (think There’s a World and you’re in the right postcode) in the youngster’s work to date.
Born 1990 in Shreveport, Louisiana, singer-songwriter Dylan LeBlanc’s childhood alternated between his grandmother’s home there and Fame Studios at Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where his father played sessions and wrote country songs. He was learning guitar by the time he was seven, had his own guitar four years later and began writing songs shortly thereafter.
By age fifteen he was playing coffee shops, as a solo gig, had hooked up with a covers outfit and formed a blues band, playing the local bars, and travelling as far away as Huntsville, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.
Signed to Muscle Shoals’ Fame Music at age eighteen, Paupers Lane was recorded there in early 2009,with a subsequent overseas release on Rough Trade Records.
