Allen Toussaint and Allen Orange turned up at an open audition scouting talent for the newly formed Minit Records in January 1960. THe audition saw Benny Spellman, Aaron Neville and Jessie Hill signed to the new label, while Irma Thomas and Joe Tex also tried out but were already contracted elsewhere.
Toussaint had alrwady made something of a name for himself, but apart from accompanying Allen Orange he ended up playing behind most of the others; it was enough to impress the label owners and resulted in a gig as the new label's producer and arranger. Interesting, but still, despite Allen Toussaint's presence, Obscure. File under: New Orleans
