Governor of Queensland, General Sir Henry Wiley Norman inspects the Cairns-Kuranda railway line. Stoney Creek Bridge was almost complete and John Robb prepared a full banquet atop Stoney Creek Bridge with tables, food and wine suspended over the gorge. There were no speeches due to the roar from the waterfalls.

The great maritime strike spread to the railway workers on the Cairns-Herberton railway line who formed The United Sons of Toil, demanding payment of 90c per day. By September the dispute had been resolved and wages were increased from 80c per day to 85c per day.
